I have only just discovered the Gypsy Kings. I kept hearing about them here and there, but just recently bought my first album, Gipsy Kings Live.
I play a little guitar myself, but have never really tried flamenco before, It's a kick for me trying to figure out how to play their stuff, and your web page is a great help (especially with the lyrics, since I don't speak a word of Spanish :-)
Keep up the good work!!!
Cheers, Elson

I am a relatively new fan, and have never had the opportunity to see them perform. Do you know where/when they will be touring in 1998?

Greetings.
There is now a Gipsy Kings Mailing List. If you're not familiar with mailing lists, they are discussion groups linked via e-mail. The list has its own e-mail address. Any message sent to the list is distributed to the "subscribers" of the list.
The GK list is intended to promote discussion of the Gipsy Kings, their music and related artists. I'm very experienced at managing mailing lists (I also run the Hummer mailing list, http://www.humvee.com) and, having the resources at my disposal to do so, have created one for the Gipsy Kings (they deserve it).
To join the list, you can go to the GKML web site at:
http://www.treefort.org/~bish/gkings/gklist.html
Or, send an e-mail message to:
gkings-request@mailinglists.org
With the word "subscribe" (without quotes) in the BODY of the message.
...Bob Bish
PS - I visited your site this past Monday, only to learn that the GKs had been on TV the previous Saturday night. This is what made me finally decide to create the mailing list.

Hi Chie,
I just wanted to let you and everyone know that the Gipsy Kings will be on (US) PBS TV this on Oct. 18! I think your page is the best way to distribute this information.
People can find their local PBS stations at www.pbs.org, and check the programming for Oct. 18. The name of the program is "Sessions at West 54th".

It's Misty Callahan again and I just would like to thank you for providing a fan like me with a fantastic outlet!! It is so nice to be able to talk abou the Gipsy Kings and not have my friends look at me like I'm crazy and call me an "otaku-chan" (? on spelling). Which leads me to my point, all I have are 9 CD's (Compas, Tierra Gitana, Este Mundo, Live!, Love and Librte, Mosaique, Gipsy Kings and Allegria. I own two concert t-shirts and one cap from the '97 tour and I own Fuego. Now I'm looking for any t.v. performances and/or t.v. interviews. Do you Know where I may be able to find such things? I don't have much in the way of money, but I can sure draw a hell of a mean-lookin' chibi of the band! No rush. When you have time would you e-mail me with the info?
Thanks so much!

Hello!
I am a new fan of the Gipsy Kings... and I adore you! I come from Montreal, Canada and I discovered the group while on a recent trip to Europe. Upon my return home, I bought your CDs... The music, the rhythm, everything is genious. However, I don't understand Spanish very much and I wondered if there exists a site that has the words to the songs. I looked in Montreal in the book stores and record stores but I didn't find anything which was a big disappointment. Thank you in advance and don't ever stop your magic music.

Thanks so much for providing these webpages. It is a really great thing to share information, ideas, songs, impressions, and emotions. The translations were greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
Anyway - I had tapped this documenary on PBS, but my husband accidently tapped over it. Oh the pain! But - there is hope. All you have to do is call your local PBS station and order it from them and/or make a copy. Good luck!!!

The GKs have changed our lives dramatically. If it hadn't been for them, we wouldn't have travelled to Seattle when we did and, to make a long story short, wouldn't now own a piece of paradise - a waterfront cabin on Puget Sound about 60 miles north of Seattle. We'll be spending many marvelous summers there.

Your GK page is just outstanding. I think it's great to let other people know one's experiences with this group. I just saw them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and they were absolutely amazing.
The thing though is, they played a lot of songs that I hadn't even heard (not even from their older CDs like Allegria). All of them were great, and some I would even say better than most of their material! So I was wondering, are they planning a new CD soon? I assume Tierra Gitana/Estrellas is the latest so far, which came out last March...

PS. The translations are really great to appreciate the songs more. I hope soon you'll have the entire discography :)

Thank you for your fantastic home page. My name is Junichi Shindo from Osaka.
I have been a fan of GK just since last December 1996. But now I am deeply interested in their music. About 10 years ago, I bought a Manitas de Plata's CD "Juerga!" and only a few month ago I read again a liner notes of it and, by chance, I found that Manitas and Jose were the father generation of GK members because of their family names. This is a reason of my enthusiasm begins.
I have checked your GK Collection Related CDs and found several albums I have are missing from your collection. .................
List of missing albums are
@@@@Manitas de Plata
@@@@-------Juerga!(1963)
@@@@-------Gypsy Flamenco(1963)

I also have GK CDs "Allegria(1982)" and "Luna de Fuego(1983)" Europe version. For your information, my CD collection of GK is almost complete except some of "Tracks" and I bought most of these in middle east countries where GK boom is going on as well.

I hope everything is going well for you. Please, excuse me I did not write you before, I am junior student of engineering at Pennsylvania State University and during summer classes my time is a little limited due to my assignments and projects, I apologize.
I think your home-page of the GK is simply fantastic...THE BEST!!!. Actually, most of my little free time during the last weeks I have been just looking at it and is incredible the so detailed and well organized information I have been able to find in it; MIL GRACIANS CON MUCHO CORAZON!!!! = One thousand thanks with a lot of hard!!! ( translation of Spanish as a gypsy would say it ).
.....................
You know, until I found your web-side of GK I though I was one of the few people who feel that way when listening to their cd's. When I was a teenager ( I am 25 now) my father use to invite me to the beach for "fishing" with him and his friends. I used to go with him but as I grow older I started to decline those invitations because my stupid teenager mind used to think:" What could I possibly do between a bunch of adults drinking wind, singing and plying guitars during the whole night?.....after all, I never have been a good fisherman like my father or his friend." Is now when I came to realize what those afternoon, night and next morning were about, they were gypsy nights!. Since I live in the middle of nowhere (State College, PA) the GK are the only who reminds me of those nights and I still lament not accepting many of the my father's invitations to go "fishing".
Anyway!...I also used to play the guitar, I learn a little from watching my father's friends and from one of my brothers to whom I used to call "Tonino" when we play gypsy music. Between my favorite GK songs are:
Tu Quieres Volver ( Yuo Want To Return), I am singing a lot this one now...any idea why?
Un Amor ( Once In A Love ) , this is my personal translation of the title of this song in order to give it the same congnotation that has in Spanish in accordance with the contest of the song. Literal translation would be "A love".
Quiero Saber ( I Want To Know), simply beautiful!P> Triste Pena ( Sad Sorrow) , Amor D'Un Dia ( A Day's Love ), No Volvere ( I Will Not Comeback ), Mujer ( Woman ), When I am depress...
Baboleo , Nina Morena ( Dark Girl ), To cheer me up after getting a not very good grade in one of my engineering classes!
Calaverada ( No traslation ), I die every time I here this one!
Mi Vida ( My Darling ), mmmmm!.....I fill so identify with this one!. this is another personal translation of the title of the song in order to give it the same connotation that has in Spanish in accordance with the contest of the song. Literal translation would be "My Life".
No Vivire( I Could Not Live ) , Quedate Aqui ( Stay With Me ) , for any occasion...
What are your favorite GK songs?....Why?
By the way, when I look at you collection I noted that you do not have the album "GRAVITY "of Jesse Cook, don't you know him? Or if you do, don't you like him? , I think he is a very good performer. There is another gypsy performer, already dead, that perhaps you never have heard about, his name is Camar Del Rio, this man is a gypsy in his purest expression; I do not like all of his songs but some of them are very nice...perhaps you will have the opportunity to listen to him same day. I also noted the translation of some of the song are not precisely as I here them in my cd's and they are translated almost literally to English ( I have all the cd's released in the US ), is this because there are differences between the us and the Japanese version ?.
One of my friends told me he sow a biographical video of the GK in the Discovery o Learning channel some weeks ago and when I ask him if he recorded a least a piece of it he told me " What for? "........I was thiiiiiiiiis close to kill him!. I am planing to assist to one of their concert with this friend of my on September at the Radio Music Hall in NY so he cans realize why he should record at lest a little of that video. I like All of their songs, they are the only band that have this effect on my person Well...in order for me never forget where I can from I decide to buy a guitar as soon as my economical situation get better and then...well just god knows!. Thanks for sending me an E-mail, I really appreciate it! And accept again my apologize because of my late respond to your e-mail. Please, keep always this great job, people like me are what we are because of the enthusiasm and dedication of people like you.
Siempre con mucho corazon,

Thanks for the info on the Gipsy Kings. I''ve been listiening to their
music for the last eight years or so. Needless to say it was extremely
difficult getting any type of information on the group or even the type
of music that they played back then. Their music was a stepping stone
to oll other types of music for me. I'll never forget the first time I
listened to the CD of Jose Reyes et Los Reyes. When I heard Jose Reyes
sing Gitano Poete, I knew then and there that I had to actually see this
group live. If the Gipsy Kings could replicate even a mere smidgen of
what their father (uncle) had expressed through a simple recording, I
couldn't imagine what the concert would be like. (Although I would have
given everything I own to be given the opportunity to see and hear Jose
Reyes live in concert or even better yet, just jamming with his family,
unfortunately, he is gone and his legacy lives on with his family)
Anyway, I finally got to see the Gipsy Kings in concert last September
in Las Vegas at the Joint. I had fifth row seats towards the right
side of center stage. Where were you? I had an absolutel blast!! It
was worth the trip from Hawaii!!!! My family, friends and coworkers
thought I was crazy going to Vegas just for a concert. But hey, you've
gottta do what you gotta do....
