I was wondering if you could help me figure out a mystery. I just returned from a trip to Paris, where I heard in one store a cd playing what I could've sworn was the Gipsy Kings with a female vocalist. She may have been Algerian or Middle Eastern, and the music had a Middle Eastern flavor added to it, which I assumed was an evolution of the Gipsy Kings' sound. She sang on the majority of the songs, which were beautiful ballads. I fell in love with the music instantly and swore I'd get it when I got home. I discovered upon returning however that there is no female vocalist in the group after all, so I must've heard another like sounding group. Any idea who it could've been?
Thanks in advance,
Tom Gleason

Thank you for this lovely GK homepage. I really enjoyed it and especially the lyrics translation. Please keep it up and running :)
I have one comment on the Hotel California song by GK, I've heared that this song is now featured on "The Big Lebowski" Movie sound track. This CD is available everywhere here in the USA. You can check a sample of the song in www.cdnow.com.
Hope this was helpful.

I really like your website. Thanks for providing a plce for world-wide interaction on a topic of interest to all of us. I've been visiting your site for quite a few months now, but I couldn't register or anything since I've been using Netscape Navigator, which had the mailing capability removed. I just upgraded to Communicator last week, so now I can do all these registrations and mail from the browser.
I have a question which you may be able to answer: I noticed on the '98 U.S. tour schedule that the band is off from the middle of June to the latter part of August. Do you have any idea what they're doing during this period? Just interested.
Thanks!
Derek

By the way; Have you ever heard of John Adomono? He is in my opinion the greatest Gypsy Guitarist that ever was. As a guitarist myself, I have heard none as good. I am though very impressed with the lead guitarist of the G.K. Is the original lead guitarist the one who played on the record with the song "Volarie" still the same fellow? Thanks for the site.
Gypsy Kings fan.

I too am a big fan of The Gipsy Kings and enjoy the G.K. updates posted on your site. I was just wanting to inform you and your other readers that there is finally a new compact disc you can buy that has The Gipsy Kings version of "Hotel California." The disc is the soundtrack for the new US movie entitled "The Big Lebowski." Almost all of the major record stores here in my hometown are carrying the disc, so it shouldn't be hard for any G.K. fan to get ahold of.

I`ll send you some more info by mail.
GK`s part of the reyes are living in Arles and Tarascon and in between the two of them. The Baillardo`s are living in Montpellier. None of them is living in a caravan now. Most of them are living in a nice big house. Nicolas is living in the old part of Arles and maybe as you know, you might meet them around Rue de La roquette or just at saturday at the fleemarket near the Rhone at the beside.
Andre Reyes made a disk. The best I heard for years!!!!!! Marvelous songs. This CD did not appear because of rights of a record company because Mario Regis joined Andre.
Its a pity I`ve only a copy on cassette. You can imagine Andre with his own contravoice.
Then there is Gitano Family with Canut Amador and Paolo Fontana and Francesco Porto.
The first one is the son of Pablo Reyes, the second is Pablo Reyes and the third is Canut Reyes the rest is written on the disk (TUDOR/ Gitano family/ Sara Sara)
Ruptura first part
No hablas mas de mi persona
Que tu no tienes es que hablar

Ai porque te amo ai porque tu sabes ai no la queria
lailo etc
Well I hope you will find some nice things I will mail you Maybe it is nice for you if you have some questions you can mail me. I,m not going to answer private questions about them but I`m sure I can answer some questions.
O yes Chico is not called reyes but Bouchiki. He is married to Marthe Reyes.
Look for records of Mario Regis and his father. They had the biggest influence on Chico`s first record
Don`t forget to mention Armadillo the group of Nino Baillardo(Canard-which means duck) and his brothers
Good bye

It was nice to see your homepage on Gipsy Kings.
I have only seen some of the text of the songs. I do agree with a lot of them but some of it is realy wrong. Like viento de arena is sung in Arabic with some dialect of catalan provencale.
You can not really translate all to spanish because they put a lot of their own language in it. This language is , maybe you know. a mixture between spanish catalan, french, spanish and provencale.
Tristessa by example they sing " todo quai todo quai que me falto no " which means everything is all right with me when I`m not missing her.
For the rest I will see how the tablature is. My experience with books and more sites that most of it is wrong. So I will let you know when I`m ready.
I can say I`m quite a specialist because I`m a friend to the family Reyes and specialy to the son of Pablo(Poulette), Gerard which I phone a lot. He also came to Holland to visit us and in 1995 we made a small tour here in Holland.
Well my greetings and you will hear from me.
