On July 19 PBS will begin airing an hour-long television documentary on the Gipsy Kings, titled after their current album,Tierra Gitana. The program includes candid interviews with band members,documentary footage from their native traveling Gypsy communities in southern France-- some of which shows the Reyes brothers as the children with their legendary flamenco musician father, Jose - and footage of the band in performance last summer at Wolf Trap. The show examines the roots of the Gypsy culture and offers a glimpse of the present day Gypsy life, exploring the revolution of the band's unique musical style from its origins in India and North Africa, and emphasizing the musical core that is at the center of the Gypsy family and community. The documentary will air on PBS affiliates in many markets during the week of July 19, and through the summer in other cities.
