Hi Celio,
How have you been doing?
I have been well, thank you.
Here it's been raining since yesterday morning.
It's very cold and it may change to the snow soon.
I'm so glad that the GK earned a Grammy nomination once again.
They have ever earned it for their album "Love & Liberte" in 1995.
I only hope that their album will be awarded the prize this time.
I will keep on working as best as I can for all GK fans.
Please support me this year also.
Thank you for writing.
See you later,
Chie

Hi Patricia,
Thank you for the request. I'm sorry, but I just noticed that
I have not added them to my page yet, though I have been keeping them
on a file. Here is the English translations of the song. Please enjoy!
Viento Del Arena (Sand In The Wind)
God, I sing your splendor
You, who are the earth and the fire
The water and the wind.
All the sons of the wind are your sons
All the sons of the wind are brothers
This is why I sing my brothers of the desert
The sons of the sand of the desert.

Royal Albert Hall - Laser Disc
Hi, GK'S fans.
Somebody knows something about the GK concert in Royal Albert Hall on Laser Disc.
I've seen this item in CDWORLD's list, but they haven't in stock since April/1997.
The last year a bought the video with CDEurope, but they sent me a copy from the Europe version.
The sound and video quality it's bad.
The instrumental versions in this concert (Pharaon, Allegria and Moorea) are great,
also the version Tristessa (better than the original on CD "Allegria").
I'll be waiting news.
Thanks....

To Rick re Royal Albert Hall Video
hiya rick: I've an answer for you but you're not gonna like it... give it up... i placed an order for the same video through cd europe last May... they kept extending the time limit... three time as a matter of fact... finally i cancelled it. But.... I found another on line shop that has it... I placed the order and it arrived in three weeks.. it was a happy day in my household. I purchased it through CD Teleshop which is based in the Netherlands. www.cdteleshop.com The only draw back is that all the videos are in PAL format not the North Amerian VHS. To solve this problem all I did was go through the yellow pages made a couple of calls and found a shop that transferred videos from the PAL system to NA VHS version for a fee. The video itself totaled with shipping and handling approx $14US. It was worth every penny.
good luck

Royal Albert Hall...
hopefully someone can answer this....i placed an order through CD europe
early last month for the GK live at the royal albert hall, and the order
has yet to be filled. it's already past the 6 week time limit, yet they
still haven't cancelled the order. has anybody tried (unsuccessfully) to
order this video, and if so, are there any other options? i've ordered
through them in the past and haven't had any problems, but considering the
age of the video, i'm wondering if it hasn't already been deleted... any
help will be appreciated!

New to the group
Hello! I was so excited to find this homepage a couple of weeks ago. I am a very new fan of GK. I basically know nothing about them, but because Ispent most of my childhood living in Latin Ameica, I have a fascination with the latin rythms and lyrics (although I don't understand all of the languages they use). By the way, exactly what language besides Spanish do they use in their music most often?? It is killing me to know. Again, it is great to have this signboard available!
Que le vaya bien.

Has anyone got any news about forthcoming European tour dates? Also I was surprised to see that the Gipsy Kings tour far more frequently in the US than in Europe (I think the last time the Gipsy Kings played in France was 1995) Does anyone know why this is the case?

Hypnotic Safari
If you enjoy the fine flamencolike strums of the Gipsy Kings, you'll enjoy the nice rhythms of "Hypnotic Safari" by Romero and Johnson.
Keep your eyes open for the new CD coming out within a few months, entitled "Hypnotic Safari" all tunes written and produced by Wayne Wesley Johnson and Ruben Romero. It is a "Jazzamenco" type of guitar project, featuring up to 32 tracks of "rumba flamenca type rhythms, and a dozen or so different types of guitars and guitar playing styles, including nylon and steel strings, acoustic and electric and synthesized guitars with fiery flamenco picata's and rosgueados performed by Ruben Romero, and smooth jazz improv, fingerstyle and flatpicking, and performances on the "Flaquinto" (a double necked flamenco/requinto) by Wayne Wesley Johnson.
Other musicians included in the project are Josef Martinez (latin percussionist with Santana, and Ben Lucero (bassist with Prince)....mastering is being done by Steve Malcomb (former Doobie Bros. engineer)....original recordings produced by Wayne Wesley Johnson and Ruben Romero, at the Stepbridge Studios, by William Barclay, in Santa Fe, N.M.
For your copy of "Hypnotic Safari" scheduled to be released in a few months....(labels are bidding for it right now)....just send your name to wjguitar@aol.com, or wwj@pascale.com and we'll be sure and put you on the list for early notification of availability.
Regards, Wayne Wesley Johnson

Chico & the Gypsies on TV
Good morning(here)!
They appeared on Japanese TV "News Japan" for about 10 minutes,
and they played only two songs "Bamboleo" and "El Ultimo Baile"
with a Japanese woman singer, Kaori Kozai.
I was so excited since it's the first time for me to see them on TV.
After the performance, Chico had an interview with a newscaster
in French. Also, Japanese back musians told her that "we have been
GK fans too, so we are so glad to play the great music with them."
This time, they have two concerts in Tokyo next week on Dec 19 and 21.
I guess that both of them will be great. I wish to go there, but I can't this time.
Thank you.
Chie
P.S.
Hi Victoria,
Thank you for writing. Unfortunately, I don't know about Chico's background
very well. Their private info is still so hard to get.
If I get any further info, I will let you know. Thanks again.

Re: Chico & the Gypsies
Hello Chie,
I'm curious about Chico's background. I read at Krishna's site
that his parents came from Morroco and Algeria. It also said that
he married a Gypsy, a Reyes sister (implying that he might not be Gypsy).
Does anyone know of his background? Is he Gypsy, Arab, or Jewish?
I also noticed that he was present at the Nobel Peace prize
ceremony when Rabin and Arafat were awarded the honor. He seems to
participate in other world peace events. Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks always Chie! Victoria

I'm planning a trip to Arles/Camargue region in France ... home of the Gipsy Kings... for the Fete De Saintes Maries De La Mer (Gipsy Pilgrammage) in May 1999. Hopefully the GK won't be on tour and will be at the Fete. If anyone is interested drop me an email. Spent a few days in Arles several years ago, its a beautiful town.

Hi Ana,
Thank you for writing. It's so helpful for us.
But unfortunately, some accents changed into the strange
character on this board. Usually, our mashine can't read
any accents in Japan. We can read only the English characters.
So, I would be grateful if you send your comments without
accents next time.
Again, thank you for your kindness.

Nomade
Hi Benardine,
Thank you for writing.
Finally, I obtained the album "Nomade" last week.
As you mentioned below, it's like a "Best Hits". I like it and I listen to it
over and over again since I got it. It's so interesting for me to hear dfferent
versions of the GK numbers.
By the way, I called the CD store today and they told me that a new Chico &
the Gypsies' single CD "La Bamba" will be released in Japan on Nov 12.
Sorry, it's not an album, but a single. Unfortunately, they have no info on
a Japanese version's "Nomade". If I get any further info, I will let you know

I'm glad that you could get those CDs.
I think that the GK's song "Los Peces en el Rio" on "Winter, Fire & Snow -
Songs For The Holiday Season" is the same as the one on "Tierra Gitana".
Anyway, I'm so interested in both of them. I will e-mail you later.
Thank you for letting me know about that and your kind offer, as always.

camelas = amas (to love}
Div? = Dios {God}
naqueram cal? = hablas cal? {you talk caló}

Hello Chie,
Does anyone have any info regarding the Ami Wa Wa music video seen recently on cable.
I don't have cable and hate missing out. I have the "Fuego!" video and I'm wondering if
another video like that is in the works. I suspect that there are other music videos between
those on "Fuego!" and the new Ami Wa Wa video. A new compilation video would be great!!

Chico & the Gypsies- Normade
Hola everyone,
I just returned from the CD store....I checked out Chico and the gypsies Normade....other than Song No. 5 (Normade-Ya Rayab) everthing else is a repeat from their old album (eg. El Verano, Marina) or copied from the Gks (eg. Habla Me, Bamboleo, Moorea)....They even sing La Bamba.
I didn't get it as I prefer the GK version.....Chicos' beats are slightly different but the concept is still the same as the GKs......This album is more or less like a 'Best Hits' compilation.

Please post a message if you can think of anything.
