I too am a big fan of The Gipsy Kings and enjoy the G.K. updates posted on your site. I was just wanting to inform you and your other readers that there is finally a new compact disc you can buy that has The Gipsy Kings version of "Hotel California." The disc is the soundtrack for the new US movie entitled "The Big Lebowski." Almost all of the major record stores here in my hometown are carrying the disc, so it shouldn't be hard for any G.K. fan to get ahold of.
I have received several questions about GK's song "Hotel California" from some fans. I also love the song indeed, and finally, I got the album called "Rubaiya" last year. I owed that my good friend, Rennie in the US. It still seems to be so hard to get, but maybe it can be found at the used record store, so give it a try! I will show you the following information on the song and the album from two persons. I wish you good luck!! (-C.U.- Mon, Jun 2 1997)

Hi,
I am the one mentioned in your FAQ as having a copy of the Gipsy King's "Hotel California" CD. I get email frequently from people asking for more information on the CD. I would like to put the information on your FAQ, next to the existing reference. Could you please do that for me? The information is below. Thanks.

[This is a CD single that I bought in a used-CD store in San Francisco about 6 years ago. You probably won't find a copy of the CD single but you can probably find a copy of "Rubaiyat," a compilation CD that includes the song. -- John Kim, kim@cs.umass.edu]

Hello Chie,
Here's the info on Rubaiyat you requested:
"Rubaiyat: Elektra's 40th Anniversary"
Elektra Records 60940-4
released sometime in 1990
it's long out of print in US and most likely elsewhere also length: 2 hours 5 minutes (double cassette and double CD) 39 songs
The premise behind the recording is that Elektra Records wanted to have some of their current (1990) acts record a song by another Elektra act from the past: GK do an Eagles song, The Cure do a Doors song, Metallica do a Queen song, etc. I don't have the CD but I found a good CrO2 double cassette in a used record store in Olympia for $15. That is expensive but it is very rare and I wanted the GK song. I have never seen it in any other used store since then. I'm looking for the CD. The reason it's so hard to find is that The Cure have a very big cult-like following and their version of "Hello I Love You" is much sought after by their fans. ...........
Mas tarde amiga mia,
Dan
